Worship Celebration – July 07

In the sermon, “Do You Have Oil in the Lamp?” delivered by Bro Tommy, he uses the parable of the ten virgins from Matthew 25 to convey the importance of preparing for the return of Jesus. Known to be an expert teacher who used parables for spiritual teachings, Jesus’s message here, as explained by Bro Tommy, is all about readiness for His second coming.According to the parable, ten virgins went out to meet the bridegroom with their lamps, but only five of them wisely brought along extra oil. When the bridegroom delayed, all fell asleep but were awakened by a call at midnight announcing his arrival. It was at this crucial time that the foolish virgins without extra oil found their lamps dying out and were subsequently denied entry into the wedding when they returned after obtaining oil. Bro Tommy interprets this parable as a Jewish marriage tradition metaphor, with bridegroom symbolising Jesus, the bride as the church, and the virgins standing for those invited to the wedding, particularly the tribes of Israel. He emphasizes the importance of having the Holy Spirit (the oil) in our lives, equating the wise virgins with people who have a personal relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The sermon is not limited to Jewish tradition but applies universally to all believers. Bro Tommy reminds that though many acknowledge the imminent return of Jesus, they often neglect personal spiritual preparation. Inculcating a sense of urgency, Bro Tommy urges believers to introspect whether they possess proper spiritual readiness akin to the oil in their lamps. Stressing on the timely acceptance of Jesus and salvation, he warns of a time when opportunities for salvation will be shut out.To conclude, Bro Tommy advises immediate action in preparing for the return of Christ and insists that salvation should not be delayed. Drawing from Matthew 7, he elucidates that entry to the kingdom of heaven is not for everyone who acknowledges the Lord, but for those who follow the will of the Father. Bro Tommy serves a reality check to all believers by urging them to validate their spiritual preparedness for the return of Jesus. He underscores the importance of developing a personal relationship with Jesus and welcoming the Holy Spirit into our lives, circling back to the central question – “Do you have oil in your lamp?”
