Worship Celebration – Feb 25

In his sermon “Things to Come,” Pastor Tommy Pierce introduces a series of throwback worship services while pivoting his focus towards future events mentioned in Mark 13, specifically the destruction of the temple, the second coming of Jesus, and the end of the world. He narrates how Jesus predicted the collapse of the temple – a prophecy that was fulfilled in 70 AD. Pastor Tommy provides a historical perspective about the stones used in the temple’s construction while discussing Jesus’s proclamation. He brings attention to the Olivet discourse which essentially is Jesus’s farewell sermon found in Mark 13, Luke 21, and Matthew 24-25. Pastor Tommy reveals his plan to complete the book of Mark post-Easter and conduct a mini-series on the end of times. He elaborates that the discourse’s purpose isn’t to make disciples erudite in End Times but to guide how to live life in anticipation of the future. This includes living with discernment, expectation, enduring persecution, and vigilance.Pastor Tommy elucidates the four pillars of being Jesus’s disciple – discernment to differentiate deception and false prophets, maintaining an expectation for Jesus’s return signaled by events such as wars and famines, enduring persecution for their beliefs, and staying vigilant for His return. By narrating a parable about a man leaving his servants in charge during his journey, Pastor Tommy reminded disciples to stay focused on their tasks, anticipating Jesus’s return at any time. His sermon concludes with reinforcing the uncertainty of Jesus’s return date and the importance for his congregation to live their lives to reflect their beliefs in his imminent return.
