How Do You Go to Heaven?

The Romans Road to Salvation is a simple way to understand and explain the good news of Jesus Christ using key verses from the book of Romans. It helps us see why we need salvation, how God provided it through Jesus, how we receive it, and what happens when we place our faith in Him.

1. We All Need Salvation Because We Have All Sinned

The Bible teaches that every person has sinned. None of us has lived up to God's perfect standard, and we all stand in need of His forgiveness. As Scripture says:

“None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one” (Romans 3:10–12).

And:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

2. The Consequence of Sin Is Death Sin has a serious consequence.

It separates us from God and ultimately leads to death. But God offers us something far better.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

3. Jesus Christ Died for Our Sins

The wonderful news of the gospel is that God loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take our place and pay the penalty for our sin.

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

Jesus died so that we could be forgiven and brought into a right relationship with God.

4. We Receive Salvation Through Faith in Jesus Christ

Salvation is not something we earn. It is a gift that we receive by placing our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

“Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved” (Romans 10:9–10).

And:

“For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).

5. Salvation Brings Peace with God

When we trust in Christ, God forgives our sins, gives us eternal life, and brings us into a relationship of peace with Him.

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1).

Because of what Jesus has done, believers no longer stand condemned before God:

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).

And nothing can ever separate us from His love:

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38–39).

Responding to the Romans Road

If you would like to respond to what you have read, you can do so right now by placing your faith in Jesus Christ. Prayer is simply talking to God. The prayer below is not a formula, and the words themselves do not save you. Salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone. However, this prayer can help you express your trust in Him:

God, I know that I have sinned against You and deserve judgment for my sin. I believe that Jesus Christ died for me and rose again. Today, I turn from my sin and place my trust in Jesus Christ alone as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for Your grace, Your forgiveness, and the gift of eternal life. Help me to follow You from this day forward. In Jesus' name, Amen.
